Russia launches new UO2 powder production line
The Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant - part of Russia's TVEL - has commissioned a new production line for uranium dioxide powder. The new line uses a high-temperature 'dry' process, rather than 'wet' extraction technology currently used at the plant.
Chinese VVERs start using domestically made fuel
The first domestically produced VVER fuel assemblies have been loaded into the cores of the Russian-designed units 1 and 2 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in Jiangsu province, China.
Resource boost at Rössing South
A ten-fold increase in the resource estimate at Extract Resources' Rössing South in Namibia now makes the deposit the world's sixth largest known uranium deposit, the company reported.
Kepco partners to develop Spanish uranium
Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) has agreed to invest $70 million in Berkeley Resources Ltd's Salamanca uranium project in Spain in return for an offtake agreement entitling it to 35% of the project's output.
Kazakh uranium output continues to rise
Kazakh national nuclear company KazAtomProm reported a 42% increase in uranium production during the first half of 2010 compared with the same period in 2009. Total uranium output for the whole of 2010 is set to reach 18,222 tonnes, a 30% increase from 2009.
Fuel deal for South Africa
Eskom has signed an extension to a longstanding supply arrangement for enriched uranium with Tenex of Russia. It will cover a significant part of the fuel for the Koeberg plant.
