Gentilly 2 refurbishment postponed
Hydro-Quebec has decided to postpone the start of refurbishment work at the Gentilly 2 reactor by about one year. The company decided in August 2008 to refurbish the Candu unit as an alternative to closing it in about 2011.
Nuclear icebreakers clear path for gas shipment
Two Russian nuclear-powered icebreakers will escort a tanker transporting gas condensate from Russia to China via the Arctic rather than through the Suez Canal. The trial run is aimed at slashing the time it takes to ship oil and gas to countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Japanese trio bows out of Uranium One
A consortium of three Japanese companies has agreed to end their investment in Canada-based Uranium One, securing long-term uranium purchasing rights instead. Meanwhile, Uranium One is upping its 2010 production forecast.
New Brunswick wants mediation as delays confirmed
The provincial government of New Brunswick has asked the Canadian federal government for mediation over cost overruns for the refurbishment of the Point Lepreau nuclear power station, after receiving confirmation that the project will not be completed before 2012.
